I am rather excited about this new segment that I have started! I have always had a love hate relationship with fashion, loving the newest and latest trends while hating the fact that I could never find pieces that actually fit me! Let's be clear, I am not a skinny mini nor am I a plus sized girl, so it's rather difficult to find something that made sense for me. I have worked with women that look to me, and ask what it is that I wear, and what fits my body. I am the person that they can relate to, and fit their niche. So I am glad to announced a special corner for those girls. Welcome to Catered for Curves! Every CFC post will be dedicated to a different brand and how they work for my body, and yours. I will tell you my usual size, and how it compares to the brand. So ladies, I've got you covered!
This first post, I had to do a brand that I have been secretly coveting, Alive and Olivia. While they have items that are more colorful than I would usually wear, they play on my feminine side. I put together 5 looks for any curvy girl to really get into!
The little black dress is obviously a classic, however this one has a great twist. With a slit, open back and sheer straps; this dress gives you the perfect amount of sex appeal. The fabric is body hugging and there is a slip under that works almost like a spanx to hold you together a bit, which can always be helpful. I usually range from a size 6 to 8 in dresses, in this piece I stuck with my true size 6.
I like to mix and match a lot, and when it comes to trends and style, I think you can have fun with it. This outfit would be what I call a peek-a-boo moment. Where it can come off super casual but, have a peek-a-boo of sexy. This can easily have been more of a sexier look in heels, but we all know that's not my style so much. I went with a size 12 pant, which is my usual size, however if there was a 14, I would have went for it and just taken in the waist. As for the top, I got an 8 which is normal for me, and medium in the jacket. This look was rather easy for me to wear around and not feel uncomfortable at any point.
I have to say this outfit is the most comfortable thing of life. I bought this skirt months ago when my pants split at work [just another day in the life of me]. So I purchased this skirt and it's been one of my go-to's because it's an easy fit and has lots of stretch. This knit can easily be paired back to anything in your closet. Let's also be for real here, this look could work with kicks, heels, sandals, and look good. It's a no brainer. I went with a medium in the top and a large for the bottom, which is also my usual sizing.
There is no way you can't tell me this romper doesn't give you life. The moment I slipped into this one piece and felt the fabrication, I was sold. Pieces like this are easy to wear and can easily go from day to night. I would stick with simple jewelry, and throw on a blazer for work, so I can show off all the skin once 6pm hits! I'm wearing a size 8 in this romper, I can not compare sizes as to this is the first jumper that has fit everywhere properly [a total win!]
Didn't I say girlie side? I was not joking! This is the most simple of dresses possible, you don't really need to worry so much about the body as you should just focus on the waistline and the shoulder width. This would be the perfect day date dress, or if you're too lazy to think of an outfit, throw this bad body on. Dress size 8, 6 wouldve been fine but i like to have more of a flowy effect for this dress.
That's all for our first look at Catered for Curves. Please comment, like and share. Let me know what you think! What I should I add, change and brands you would love for me to cover. I am always looking to help the next curvy girl discover a goldmine for their closet.
