There are 2 goals to this evening, out do everyone else and get an outfit that screams this year's theme. Level up from last year! You have to be the bell of the ball. Be a RIhanna when she did "China: Through the looking glass" with her hand made imperial yellow, fur trimmed cape that took two years to make and not Kim Kardashian "Punk: Chaos to Couture" when she looked like your grandmother's couch in a Riccardo Tisci down with matching gloves.
The question now, what will we see tonight? With this year's theme being "Rei Kawakubo/ Comme des Garcon", it's definitely going to be interesting to see how people try to exhibit Kawakubo's avant garde and artistic aesthetic. This will be the first time the Met has honored a living designer since Yves Saint Laurent back in 1983. Kawakubo being the living artist told Business Fashion how she personally felt about this upcoming exhibit, "I was not so happy at first. I never wanted to be a retrospective, and it ended up like that. It's a Met show for Comme des Garcon, not a Comme des Garcon show at the Met. Compromises were made."
I think those same compromises that were made on her behalf will be the same compromises that people will be making with it comes to outfit selections. There will be very few who will be able to truly carry the Kawakubo/CDG look, and I am betting on Rihanna, Solange, Madonna, and Heidi Klum to pull it off best. But we will see! Tonight's the night...are you ready? If you aren't going to be one of the many fans waiting outside the met, be smart and catch it on E!, tonight at 7:30pm.
In the meantime enjoy this fun graph to see if you can make it in next year!
